Ashore Knowledge

LTCO’s Basic Cruising Ashore Knowledge Module is designed to help you get the most out of your Sail Canada (SC) Basic Cruising course.  It covers all of the knowledge requirements of SC’s Basic Cruising exam.  Working through the online sessions in this module, combined with the course text (not included), various free downloads, and the included practice exam will prepare you to write and pass the Ashore Knowledge exam that is part of the SC Basic Cruising Standard.  To subscribe, please visit: https://courses.learntocruiseonline.ca

LTCO’s SC / ASA Advanced Cruising Module is designed to help you get the most out of your Sail Canada (SC) or ASA Advanced Cruising course.  It covers all of the knowledge requirements of SC’s Advanced Cruising exam, as well as the requirements for ASA 106.  Working through the online sessions in this module, combined with the referenced readings from the recommended texts and the included practice exam (under development) will prepare you to write and pass the Ashore Knowledge exam that is part of the SC or ASA Advanced Cruising Standard.

LTCO’s Intermediate Coastal and Electronic Navigation Module covers all the requirements for Sail Canada’s Intermediate Coastal Navigation standard, with additional content dealing with AIS, boat networks, chartplotters, electronics for accessing marine weather, multifunction devices, and navigating with mobile devices.  The module price includes the text and exercises, online screencasts, a practice exam, instructor support via email, and the Sail Canada official exam. LTCO’s Advanced Navigation Module addresses all the requirements for certification for the Sail Canada Advanced Navigation standard. The SC Advanced Navigation standard provides a framework that organizes the navigational knowledge and skills needed for leading challenging coastal and offshore passages. It is a prerequisite for skipper certification at the SC Offshore Cruising level, and includes four modules: Passage Planning and Chart Work, Navigation Systems, Radar, and Weather.  To subscribe, visit https://courses.learntocruiseonline.ca

Maritime Radio

LTCO’s Maritime VHF Restricted Operator Certifiate Module is  designed to help you qualify for your Restricted Operator Certificate (Maritime). Everyone operating a VHF marine radio is required to have their ROC(M) card. Our Maritime Radio module offers a convenient and inexpensive way to get this qualification.  The course is based on the Maritime Radio Course book, which can be ordered directly from Sail Canada.  The module price includes online screencasts, a practice exam, instructor support via email, the exam and the card processing fee.  To subscribe, visit https://courses.learntocruiseonline.ca

Instructions for subscribing to Ashore Knowledge Courses

  1. You need to have an account before you can purchase a subscription.  Use the form labelled REGISTER TO ACCESS PROTECTED CONTENT
  2. If you already have an account, please login
  3. Select the Module you wish to subscribe to and click the “Subscribe” Button.  The page will refresh and a “Checkout” button will appear.
  4. Click the “Checkout” button to begin the payment process.  This will take you to Paypal.  You may use any major credit card to pay, or a Paypal account if you have one.  Prices are in Canadian dollars.  PLEASE DO NOT USE APPLE PAY, since Paypal has not yet ensured that HST is charged for Apple Pay payments.  If you use Apple Pay we will require a separate transaction for the HST.
  5. While in many cases there is no physical shipment, for some courses we ship physical manuals and or exams using the shipping address that you provide to PayPal. Please ensure that the shipping address you provide to PayPal is correct and complete. We can’t be responsible for lost shipments or the cost of re-shipping returned mail. We use Canada Post express shipping or expedited parcel.
  6. Upon completing the payment process, you will be returned to the LTCO site.  You should now have access to the module you selected.  Email us if you encounter any issues.
