Silver Start Sailing School is now making available a set of online self-study modules for Navigation and Ashore Knowledge, offered in collaboration with LearnToCruiseOnline.ca
These modules will enable you to continue making progress on your sailing journey throughout the year, from the comfort of your home (or whereever else you are).
How to subscribe to an online Ashore Knowledge or Navigation Module
- You need to have an account before you can purchase a subscription. Use the form labelled REGISTER TO ACCESS PROTECTED CONTENT
- After registering, or if you already have an account, please login. You must be logged in to obtain a subscription.
- After logging in, you need to reload this page to get Silver Star Sailing School special pricing (https://learntocruiseonline.ca/silver-star/): please refer to the original link you followed to get here in the first place.
- From the offerings below, select the module you wish to subscribe to and click the “Subscribe” Button. The page will refresh and a “Checkout” button will appear.
- Click the “Checkout” button to begin the payment process. This will take you to Paypal. You may use any major credit card to pay, or a Paypal account if you have one. Prices are in Canadian dollars.
- While in most cases there is no physical shipment, Paypal requires a shipping address (which can be the same as the billing address) to calculate applicable sales tax that will be added to the payment.
- Upon completing the payment process, you will be returned to the LTCO site. You should now have access to the module you selected. Email us if you encounter any issues.
Please note that the official Sail Canada or Industry Canada exam fee is not included in the above pricing. When you are ready to write the exam, contact silver-star to make arrangements.
Ashore Knowledge Modules
LTCO’s Basic Cruising Ashore Knowledge Module is designed to help you get the most out of your Sail Canada (SC) Basic Cruising course. It covers all of the knowledge requirements of SC’s Basic Cruising exam. Working through the online sessions in this module, combined with the course text (not included), various free downloads, and the included practice exam will prepare you to write and pass the Ashore Knowledge exam that is part of the SC Basic Cruising Standard.
Navigation Modules
LTCO’s Basic Coastal Navigation Module covers all the requirements for Sail Canada’s Basic Coastal Navigation standard with additional content on using mobile devices for navigation. The module price includes the text and exercises, online screencasts, a practice exam, and instructor support via email.
Maritime Radio Module
LTCO’s Maritime VHF Restricted Operator Certifiate Module is designed to help you qualify for your Restricted Operator Certificate (Maritime). Everyone operating a VHF marine radio is required to have their ROC(M) card. Our Maritime Radio module offers a convenient and inexpensive way to get this qualification. The course is based on the Maritime Radio Course book (not included). The module price includes online screencasts, a practice exam, and instructor support via email.
